You can’t trust a dial-up connection to stay connected at maximum speeds as it has a tendancy to fluctuate whenever the quality of its connection degrades. But more often than not, this readjustments of speed happens much too early than whats necessary.

Here is a simple guide to keep the entire session stable when it comes to speed.

  1. Click ‘ Start > Settings > Control Panel ‘ to open the Windows XP Control Panel.
  2. In the Windows Control Panel double click the ‘ Phone and Modem Options ‘ Icon.
  3. Then click the Tab which is labeled ‘ Modems ‘, select your modem and click the ‘ Properties ‘ button.
  4. Click the ‘ Connections ‘ tab and proceed through to the ‘ Advanced ‘ button. In the ‘ Extra Settings ‘ field, enter S36=7 then click ‘ OK ‘ to save your settings.
